WHOME (Women Historians of the Middle East) is a collective of female-identifying scholars of the Middle East and North Africa.

We, Women Historians of the Middle East, would like to put forth a statement as a call for action in support of our network as well as those we are connected to through familial, friendships, and professional ties. We acknowledge that this statement is not in a timely manner, as we are a horizontal network and not an organization or institution. Although many in our network have taken actions through institutions they belong to, we hope we can help amplify their voices and calls for action through our network by sharing possible actions that can be taken in support of all those affected. As of Thursday, February 16, 2023, the confirmed death toll in both countries has passed 41,000 (more than 35,000 in Turkey and more than 5,800 in Syria). Each number represents a person who is now dearly missed by a loved one. However, it is an ongoing catastrophe, and the full scale of destruction can only be known in the future. The following are some actions that can be taken to provide support to those who are affected; donations, emotional support, and volunteering.

Please see our complete statement for a list of places to donate and possible acitons.
